Natural Elements in the Minneapolis / St. Paul Airport

I am excited to announce that Haute Goat scarves are now available in one of the first eco-friendly airport shops!  Natural Element, in the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) carries organic, recycled and sustainable clothing, footwear and accessories.  You won't find any cheesy keychains or plastic tchotchkies, but instead designers like Green Label and Simple Shoes), Smart Glass jewelry made from recycled metals, ReFind handbags made using discarded leather and gorgeous, vegetable-based soaps from Estrella (another local Seattle artisan).

Next time you find yourself passing through the MSP airport, make your way over to the Mall between checkpoints 3 & 4 and stop in at Natural Elements for some quality shopping.  Think about it - you take home a "logo t-shirt" as a souvenir, or you could take home a recycled cashmere scarf!  Of if you are just getting on the plane, a cashmere scarf will keep those nasty plane drafts off your neck so you won't get a stiff neck (or a cold as my mother believes).

Scavenger Hunt: MADE

Jackson Hole, WY.  That's a good stop for a scavenger hunt, isn't it?  Skiing, moose and the Grand Tetons - it doesn't get any better than that says this Rocky Mountain Girl!

Ok, it just got a little bit better - because you can now buy Haute Goat scarves in Jackson!  MADE is in Gaslight Alley, right across from the town square.  They sell a unique selection of handmade, repurposed and found objects.  Looks like a delightful store, doesn't it?

This is a new store - it opened this spring in Annapolis.  After cruising around their Facebook page and looking at the photos, it looks like these ladies know how to throw a party!  I also feel a shopping trip coming on - you know I can't resist a good eco-friendly gift shop!

Scavenger Hunt: Farnsworth Art Museum

The Farnsworth Art Museum is a nationally recognized gallery with over 10,000 pieces of American art - and over a dozen reclaimed cashmere scarves.  Oh wait, those are in the GIFT SHOP so I guess that doesn't count towards the inventory of the museum... 

If in Maine - you finally have a place to buy Haute Goat scarves in person!  

P.S.  Any place that has a giant sculpture on the roof saying "EAT" is worth visiting in my book.

Scavenger Hunt: Nest

Nest (Natural Elements Selected Thoughtfully) is a little shop with a big mission: to encourage positive change on an individual, local and global level by offering products that support independent artists, fair-trade importing, organic farming, and recycling, and by promoting a healthy and conscious lifestyle. 

There are 3 other stores connected to their conscious family - Roots (grocery), Great Sage (vegetarian restaurant) and Bark (pet care).   Sounds like a one-stop shopping and a great mission!

Voted a "Top 100 Retailer in American Craft", Dickinson & Wait is our newest stop on the Haute Goat Scavenger Hunt tour.  Located in Shepherdstown, WV, Dickinson  & Wait has been in business for over 20 years.  According to their Shepherdstown Visitor Center directory

Scavenger Hunt: NuBe Green

You have to love Capitol Hill in Seattle.  It is a bohemian paradise and continues to be so even after other neighborhoods bow down to the chain stores.  East Pine Street is no exception.  I remember when the only thing worth going to on that stretch between 12th & Broadway was... well the Egyptian was just west of Broadway.  Now there is Elliott Bay Books, Molly Moon Ice Cream, Odd Fellows Cafe, and NuBe Green!  

NuBe Green stocks goods made in the U.S. from repurposed and organic materials. They support local artists, and sustainable businesses.  AND they have great taste as to what they carry.  Everything in the store is hip - it will not only make you feel good, but it will also make you look good!  You can find clothing & accessories for adults & children as well as jewelry, handbags, toys, housewares, art, furniture...  It is really inspiring shopping there - in the same way that Anthropology is inspiring, but without the mass production side of it.  If you shop at NuBe Green, you will maintain your individualism and you can rest assured that you are supporting US artisans!

Scavenger Hunt: Capers

Capers is such a wonderful store, what can I say. I'm so excited to back there for another season! Capers is right in the heart of the junction in West Seattle. They carry the most wonderful home decor, including French linens, Mosey handbags, Sweet Petula soaps and Potluck Paris jewelry. You can also find the C2OTD - "cute chair of the day".

Watch for the post coming up re: the infamous Haute Goat Trunk Show. We've been doing it every year, and the scarves sell like hotcakes!

psst - I just found out the trunk show is going to be Nov. 20, and will feature several local handmade artists - it'll be a one stop shopping extravaganza!
