Buyer Beware: It's ok if Cashmere is not cashmere...

You may recall my earlier post from a definition of cashmere that I found in a 1956 printing of an encyclopedia.  Well here, in the 1950 printing of Webster's Dictionary it states in black & [almost] white, that cashmere may be "a soft woolen dress fabric made in imitation of real cashmere".  Boy that blurs the lines of content labels on garments, doesn't it.  (I wonder if that is why I find vintage Scottish cashmere sweaters that are circa 1950's so scratchy... must do more research into that.)
