piles of cashmere!

I love the display at Capers - there is a "pile" of cashmere on the dress form, right in the middle of the scarf table!

The first week the scarves were in Capers, they flew out the door. And even when I went in to replenish the supply, one sold right before my eyes...and almost 2 more - so close, but no cigar. It is very fun being part of the flurry!

And, one other thing before I go to get a cup of coffee. I had to replace my Goody Goody Bon Bon slippers today (I bought the original ones in Sarasota, FL). To my delight, Capers carries them. They are the most comfortable slippers I've ever owned, and the get SMILES from everyone who sees them (including me)!

It's always fun...

to see how stores (someone other than myself) choose to display my scarves...

This is from Monster Art & Clothing in Ballard.

The recycled sweater wrap-around skirt is by a Portland designer - Shabby Knapsack.

I love the idea of a recycled sweater outfit like this!

Monster Art & Clothing is open late (I think 'til 9pm on Thurs. nights through December. Also, Saturday, Dec. 13th is the Ballard Artwalk. How much fun would it be to grab a bite to eat at one of the many great eateries in Ballard, a beer at Conor Byrne (right next door to Monster) and then stroll up and down Ballard Ave. shopping at all the wonderful boutiques?

Eco Friendly Gift Wrap

Just in time for the holidays, I created a gift box that is recycled to go along with my reclaimed cashmere scarves!

The box is made from National Geographic maps, tied with jute and a reclaimed cashmere flower as a "bow". It was a bit of enigineering struggle for me, since the box is designed to fit one of the 4 1/2" wide scarves when it is rolled up. I wrap the scarf in white tissue before putting it in the box to protect it from the ink.

The flower is designed to fit over one of my skinny scarves to make it into a "bolo", but it can also be worn as a hair adornment over a ponytail, or as a brooch (just add a pin).

Fun stuff. You can buy them in my etsy shop

Meet my new model

Meet Polly (my daughter named her).
She's about 5' tall, has no hair, and fairly unrealistic proportions (if you ask Rubenesque me).
Her hobbies include standing around on 3 feet, hiding in small spaces, and modeling cashmere.
Her favorite movies include Nightmare on Elm Street and Disney's TheLegend of Sleepy Hollow.

She's made out of reclaimed foam core (it was a poster that was thrown in the trash after a hospital auction). Her legs/feet are a floor stand metal candle holder that I removed the "holder" from (bought it at Goodwill for $1.99). The best part is that she's totally portable. I took her out onto the front porch for a mini photo session. She needs a few adjustments still, like blackening some of the foam that's sticking out. But other than that I think she's going to work out really well. I think I will also create a clawfoot tub out of foam core - just because I really liked my real tub as a prop.

FYI: I am working on a tutorial w/ a downloadable "pattern" to create a dress form of your own.
