Favorite Places: la Drogurie, Paris

La Droguerie in Paris, France is a FABULOUS little craft store. They sell yarn, ribbons, beads, buttons, adn other trims. There is a certain protocol when shopping there. I didnt' quite understand it - but I did get a lot of glares from a line just in side the door when I breezed by and started browsing the store. I did quickly realize that you don't really touch things and help yourself as we do here Seattle. There is a small counter and clerk in each mini department. She's the one that counts the beads, cuts the ribbon, or gets the buttons from the bin for you. And the cashmere is in a tiny little wooden "cage" - you take the sales slip to her, the clerk brings the goods. AND you can't take photos on the store - there is a sign posted outside (this didn't stop me from taking a photos, since I didn't see the sign until I exited the store).

The second time I went into the store (once was not enough), there was no line to greet me at the door, so I didn't have to worry about "the glare". I didn't have time to browse - but I did have time to purchase 2 books which I LOVE with a double ♥♥! I now want more. Anyone going to Paris and want to carry some books back for me?

Seriously, if you are going to Paris and you want to check it out, the store is 1 block from Les Halles behind St. Eustache church (9 et 11 rue du Jour, 75001 Paris).

I'm not sure I could go into a craft store and not touch. Can't wait to see to see those books!

The "not touching" was definitely the hardest part, next to the "not buying"
