Wheat Free Sundays: The Bistro at the American Girl Store

I took my daughter to the Grand Opening at the American Girl Store in Alderwood Mall last weekend.  I just automatically assumed two things about the bistro where we had reservations for 2 adults, 2 kids, and 4 dolls (I never in my wildest dreams imagined that one day the adults would be outnumbered by dolls at my table in a restaurant).

First I assumed that I would be spending way too much money on food.  I based that assumption on the fact that I sometimes spend way too much money on doll accessories from that company. I also assumed that I would find virtually nothing for me to eat on their menu, seeing as though they are both a chain and a restaurant that is not all about the food (it's more about the experience).

I am happy to report that neither assumption held true.  The food was reasonably priced - not cheap, but not $100 doll expensive - entrees are $8-$15.  AND there were several options on the menu for someone who is wheat / cow dairy free.  I had a spinach salad with goat cheese and warm bacon vinaigrette dressing. For dessert I would have had the sorbet sundae with fresh fruit.  Here is a link to a sample menu.  It is not the same as the menu available now, but it will give you an idea of the options.

I am also pleased to note that there is only 1 menu - for adults and kids.  The kids do get special attention from the staff - as do the dolls who get their own seats and cups to drink from.  The decor is very pink, and the desserts come with sprinkles.  If that nauseates you, you probably don't want to eat there - I suggest sending a doting Grandma in your place.
